Why convert GIF to BMP
BMP shows up in two situations: legacy software that accepts nothing else, or a process that demands completely uncompressed pixels. Conversion does not change the image, it just repackages the same pixels.
When BMP is the right choice
Legacy Windows software, printers, scanners, and industrial equipment that only reads BMP. Reach for something else when: very large files; usually no transparency.
What changes after conversion
Changes to expect: transparent pixels are filled with the background colour; the extension becomes .bmp; camera metadata is stripped; the file may get larger — that is the nature of the format.
Practical tips
- A large BMP file is not an error — the format is uncompressed by design. Convert back to PNG or WebP once you no longer need it.
- Transparent pixels are filled with the colour you pick above (white by default). Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
- Camera metadata (timestamp, GPS position) is stripped during conversion — smaller files, and less to leak.
- Want it smaller still? Set Max width to 1.5–2× the size you actually display, and most web images lose more than half their weight.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to upload my images?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser, so your files never leave the device — which means contracts, ID scans and client material are all fine to process here. You can even disconnect from the network first; the tool keeps working.
Does converting GIF to BMP reduce quality?
No. BMP stores raw pixels, so the result matches the source exactly — the trade-off is a much larger file.
Can I convert in bulk? Is there a file size limit?
Yes, and effectively no. Because nothing is uploaded there is no server-side size cap — drop in as many files as you like. The only limit is your own memory; images above 120 megapixels are scaled down automatically.
